For small businesses the step to move out of a home office and into a leased space is a big step. Leasing space to conduct client meetings is also difficult and often we find ourselves asking clients to meet us as Starbucks! But what if you could have an office in the city….free?
With the growing number of startups and micro businesses each capital city is starting to see the development of shared work spaces. These are places where you can rent an office, desk or a hot desk that allows you to have an office space. Somewhere other than home where you can plug in, work, network and collaborate. An entry level hot desk option for these are generally around $400 a month.
Last week I had the opportunity to check out The NAB Village! Located in Docklands, right next to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne. The NAB Village offers a funky and dynamic workspace where members can go and plug in their computers to the wireless internet and work, meet with others and simply hang out. It was buzzing with around 50-60 entrepreneurs drinking coffee, chatting and working on their devices.
The NAB Village has a range of desks and tables and chairs where people can work from, but there are also meeting rooms that can be booked. There is a board room style room that has a projector, and a number of smaller rooms with white boards.
But the most amazing part of all of this……it is FREE! That’s right – absolutely free, if you have your business banking with NAB! Not only is using the space free, but the meeting rooms are free, and the use of the equipment. If you are holding a workshop, most function room hire is around $20-$50 an hour to hire, more so in the heart of the city!
This is a game changer for small businesses and a terrific initiative by NAB!
Will I be seeing you at the NAB Village?
